August Updates

When I neglect my blog for a long time, I end up with a long agenda of things to do, which means that to get it all over with, I have to put everything I wanted to say in a condensed form over the course of an "Updates" post. This is one of those posts.

1) Adding to Edie's last post, Ryerson University has also announced their frosh concert line up. The biggest names on the list are Thunderheist, Zaki Ibrahim and Kardinal Offishall as the headliner. However, according to the below flyer, you'll need Ryerson student ID to get in. I s'ppose you could still take a visit to the Toronto island and just HAPPEN to stumble upon it... But don't take my word for it.



2) Earlimart's headed on tour with the Wedding Present and has asked us very nicely to list their dates. Aw shucks, we'd do anything for you guys.

Note to self: I still gotta do some writing about the Weddding Present. I've taken quite a liking to them. You can expect that sometime in the near future.

3) The Silent Years's album was officially released on two days ago on the 26ths. They decided to celebrate by putting the new album, "The Globe", up for streaming and also with a new video. What generous fellows!

July Updates

My gosh. I'm sure I've said this before. Damn, it's been a while.

Anyhow, to summarize my excuses for being tardy, I've been fairly busy. What with graduating from high school, getting all my university application documents finalized, and such. No big deal, right? Aside from that, I've also got a tendency to be lazy.

Moving right along now. I've got a two major updates I want to make, since I've been away.

1) Kill Kill Kill

No, that's not a command, silly. That's a band. They were the first ever to contact Impressionable Youth in regards to their music, so there was an immediate sort of affection for them because they helped us reach another blog milestone. Quite interesting, really. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure how to review music of their genre. Think somewhat mostly experimental-instrumental with a lot of distortion and a strange undertone of apprehension. Nonetheless, I'm a sucker for vocals, so here's a few tracks by them that include them.

2) Earlimart


I fell in love with this these guys last year with the release of Mentor Tormentor. They're back, now (so quickly?!) with a new one. Hymn and Her is the name of the album, released on the first of July. Their way with words amuses me to no end. So do their oh so soothing melodies. Perfect for waking up to on a lazy summer day.

August the 21st is a good day for my wallet.

Lemme get to the point. Today, on August the 21st, 2007, there were/are three new items on my shopping list.

1) Bedouin Soundclash's Street Gospels


Aw. Don't you just love these guys? It's got to be impossible not to. Just as expected, their new material has a familiar Caribbean vibe. I was listening to the album in the car on my way to and from dinner, where the speakers overemphasize the bass. It wasn't bad though. The cruddy speakers and the album itself reminded my of how often the four-stringed instrument is disregarded. I suggest you look back on some old favourite songs and listen carefully for surprisingly enjoyable bass lines. Anywho, the album comes with some exclusive video footage and a hidden track. Sweet.

2) Earlimart's Mentor Tormentor

I first heard about Earlimart while looking up some Office tour dates. To add to that, I first found Office accidentally when I was looking up The Office, with Steve Carell. They've got a good sound and some soothing vocal harmonics going on for a few of their tracks. These gems'll be spotted around North America together for an upcoming tour, but more on that later... As in not-during-this-post later.

3) House Season Three.

I know, not exactly music, but oh man, I'm so addicted to this show. What's gonna happen now that Mr. House's employees are all gone? What's gonna happen know that that Penn kid, best known for his role as Kumar in Harold and Kumar Go to Whitecastle, is supposedly cast as a reoccurring character?
